Over the last few days, the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado have had everyone here at our snowboard shop in Manchester, NH on the edges of our seats. The greatest riders in the world converged onto the newly built snowboarding facility in Aspen and proceeded to put on display the mind-bending skills that make up the future of snowboarding. Every year, riders push the boundaries of what we think is possible. This year, if you couldn’t land a perfect 1440 triple cork, it’s as if you shouldn’t have shown up at all.
Just when you naively think that snowboarding has reached its peak, riders dutifully prove you wrong by grabbing bigger air and doing even more complex tricks. And hell, a 14 year old rider named Chloe Kim crushed Kelly Clark’s five-time gold medal winning streak in the women’s halfpipe event. And she did it mere minutes after falling face first into the halfpipe during a practice run! The blood from her nose hadn’t even dried when the 14 year old phenome was handed her medal. Kim became the youngest gold medal winner in X Games history and her winning run can be seen here.
The Most Exciting Sport Around
Customers and employees alike at our snowboard shop in Manchester, NH have been thoroughly analyzing some of their favorite moments from this year’s X Games all weekend long. The men’s slopestyle event has garnered a lot of attention here at Ken Jones Ski Mart. Canada’s Mark McMorris ( who also won the gold in the Big Air event) won the gold by beating out Norway’s Stale Sandbech by only one point! Both had incredible runs and, because their scores were so close, McMorris’ win has been somewhat controversial. To make up your own mind, Snowboarder magazine has put a side-by-side video of each of their runs that you can watch here.
This year’s X Games have reminded us just what an ever evolving and incredible sport snowboarding really is and have served to reinforce our belief that snowboarding is here to stay. With younger riders pulling off more and more mind blowing tricks and veteran riders still pushing the limits of what we consider “big air,” it’s more apparent than ever that snowboarding is one of the most unique and exciting sports to be a part of. This is why we’re so proud to offer New Englanders all the best snowboarding gear and apparel available. The 2015 X Games have become another milestone in the thrilling history of snowboarding. We hope you all had a great time watching and have been inspired to get out there and break some records of your own!
