It goes without saying that skiing and snowboarding have become integral parts of American culture. Of course skiing has been part of the American lexicon basically since snow first hit the ground. Its roots can be traced back thousands of years and across countless cultures all over the world. And, more recently, within the past few decades, snowboarding has found its rightful place in the American mainstream’s consciousness. So much so that it’s become part of the Olympic Games. Even now, in the upcoming 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, a new, “slopestyle,” competition has been added to the snowboarding Olympic events.
