5 Tips For Summer Ski Storage

Test

1. Clean Your Ski or Board

After your last day of the season it is important to clean your skis and remove any dirt, salt, or other material that may be caked on. Water and salt that are not removed from the ski before storage can cause your edges to rust and the base of the ski will dry out.

2. Give them a thorough check

It is important to check your skis before storing them as you may have caused inadvertent damage to the ski throughout the season. When skiing or boarding it is common that you may strike a rock, dirty snow, or knock your skis together while crushing spring moguls. If damage to a ski or board goes undetected it can deteriorate the core of the ski and impact longevity. If you do find damage contact the shop and we will talk to you about how to fix it.

3. Find a dry place.

Once you have cleaned your skis and inspected them for possible damage it is time to find a dry place in your house for storage. Closets, offices, and even under the bed are great spots because they are temperature regulated and have limited exposure to moisture. Skis that are stored in the garage or an unfinished basement are exposed to more moisture which will lead to rusting.

4. Get a tune in the fall.

When the weather starts to turn and the stoke builds for the season ahead, you know it’s time to get your skis tuned. Starting the season with a fresh tune means your skis will be ready for your first day on the hill. Preseason tunes are important because we will sharpen your edges, clean your base, and put a fresh coat of wax on to get your ski or board back to tip-top shape. Don’t ruin your first day out because your ski or board is ready for the conditions. REMINDER: Fall and early winter is the busiest time of year for the tune shop. To ensure we can accommodate all of your tuning needs please plan to come in earlier than your first planned ski day.

5. Hit the slopes ready to go.

If you follow these few steps you will add longevity to your skis and ensure you are ready to hit slopes when the first mountain makes the call to open! The Ken Jones Tune Shop is open for the 24/25 season August 7th and operates on the same hours as Ken Jones Ski Mart. Get here early and make sure your skis are ready for the season!
